Abstract

This study presents the first confirmed records of the family Pallopteridae (Diptera: Acalyptratae) from Algeria. Two species, Palloptera umbellatarum (Fabricius, 1775) and Palloptera muliebris (Harris, 1780), were observed from cedar and pine-oak woodland ecosystems of Sétif and Bordj Bou Arréridj provinces in northeastern Algeria at elevations ranging from 1120 to 1550 m. These records extend the known distribution range of both species into North Africa and provide new ecological data on their habitat preferences. Notes are provided on the general distribution and ecological context of the areas frequented by the two species.

Key Words: Diptera, Pallopteridae, Algeria, first record, North Africa, forest ecosystems.
